Joana de nome, Subtil de apelido.

Nasceu em 1992 nas Caldas da Rainha, lugar que a inspira e no qual, desde a sua infância, abraçou o mundo das artes que a rodeava, frequentando workshops e exposições promovidos pelas instituições artísticas e culturais da cidade como a ESAD, o Cencal, Museu da Cerâmica, Centro de Artes e o Centro da Juventude. Apesar de viver em Lisboa, as Caldas é o lugar onde sempre volta e onde sempre quer voltar.

É licenciada em Design de Equipamento pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Enquanto estudava, explorou várias vertentes artísticas, colaborando com a Galeria Bloco 103 Justino Alves, Experimenta Design, Trienal de Arquitectura, Chapitô, Lisbon Week e foi autora de artigos de design para a revista online Stand’Art Wall. Em 2013, começa a trabalhar com a artista e arquitecta Joana Astolfi, tornando-se Directora de Arte do Studio Astolfi, onde ao longo de 6 anos coordenou vários projectos do Departamento de Artes, destacando-se as montras da Hermès em Portugal, Barcelona e Paris, e as instalações de arte nos restaurantes do chef José Avillez.

2019 foi o ano de começar a investir no seu trabalho de direcção artística enquanto freelancer, explorando desde então a sua identidade em diferentes áreas como cenografia, montras, stands, curadoria de exposições, interiores e decoração, cenários para videoclipes e publicidade.

Na sua concepção experimental do espaço e da relação que este tem com as pessoas, tudo são cenários que diferem em escala, e que se querem celebrados com arte. Com um olhar contemporâneo sobre as tradições locais e artesanatos, estes ambientes são criados recorrendo a uma estética pensada desde o material à técnica e assente numa filosofia de trabalho em que a criação surge do processo de repérage. Joana cria espaços onde o detalhe e o geral vivem em igualdade.

Born in Caldas da Rainha in 1992, a place that inspires her and where, since her childhood, she is surrounded by the local art scene, attending workshops and exhibitions at cultural and artistic institutions such as ESAD, Cencal, Museu da Cerâmica, Centro de Artes and Centro da Juventude. Despite being based in Lisbon, Caldas da Rainha is the place she always returns to.

She graduated with a BA in Equipment Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. While studying, she explored many artistic subjects, collaborating with Galeria Bloco 103 Justino Alves, Experimenta Design, Architecture Triennial, Chapitô and Lisbon Week and authored articles of design for the online magazine Stand’Art Wall. In 2013, she started working with the artist and architect Joana Astolfi, becoming Studio Astolfi’s Art Director, where, over the course of six years, she coordinated multiple projects in its Arts Department, highlighting Hermès window displays in Portugal, Barcelona and Paris, and art installations within chef José Avillez’s restaurants.

2019 was the year she started investing in her freelance Artistic Director career, exploring, since then, her identity within multiple distinct fields, such as scenography, window displays, stands, curating exhibitions and interiors, decoration and creating sets for publicity and video clips.

In her experimental conception of space and the relationship it has with people, everything is constructed as sets which differ in scale, and that are celebrated with art. With a contemporary view on local traditions and crafts, she creates these environments resorting to an aesthetic thought from the material to the technique used, backed up by making use of the process of repérage. Joana builds spaces where the particular and the general co-habit equally.
